Grammy-nominated Christian hip-hop legend, Da’ T.R.U.T.H., believes a lot of CHH pioneers don’t get the respect they deserve. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based emcee sees a difference in the way Christian hip-hop and mainstream hip-hop legends are treated by fans within their genres.
“It seems like the legends in mainstream hip-hop get the honor and respect that they deserve while in our genre they don’t,” Da’ T.R.U.T.H. said.
It seems like The legends in mainstream hip pop get the honor and respect that they deserve while in our genre they don't. Even though Nas, Jay Z, wu-Tang etc. are all OG's in the game, they are highly respected and still relevant. They are not relevant necessarily because they are putting out the greatest music but because of the impact that they've made on the culture, genre, and peoples lives in general. In gospel music they seem to get this. Even though theyre are young bright stars with fresh legs that are on the rise, the generals like Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams etc. are still respected as pillars of the genre. These men along with many others are the reason why we can do what we are doing today. My question is where is the love? Why don't we reverence the OG's in the same way that the mainstream does? Or do you think they are honored as they should be?
Da’ T.R.U.T.H. is working on a new album titled ‘It’s Complicated,’ which is expected to drop in 2016.
In 2014, T.R.U.T.H.’s seventh studio album, ‘HEARTBEAT,’ charted at number 8 on the Billboard Rap Albums chart.
